10GM - A joint venture to support the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Greater Manchester

Healthy Start Uptake

Healthy Start is a scheme which provides coupons for vitamins and vouchers to buy fruit, vegetables and milk. The scheme is open to all pregnant people and families with children aged 4 years or under, provided that they receive one of a number of qualifying benefits and have a low income. 10GM worked in collaboration with NHS, VCSE and public sector partners to increase uptake and improve policy around the digitalisation of the scheme. We lobbied for a more streamlined and accessible application process and were commissioned by Citizens Advice GM to create a train-the-trainer resource.

GM VCSE Home from Hospital Programme

With funding from the Greater Manchester NHS Integrated Care, we supported the VCSE sector in Greater Manchester, in their important role in helping people to get home from hospital, helping them recover at home, and preventing hospital readmission.

The Home from Hospital Programme upscaled and enhanced the existing response to discharge pressures, by increasing collaborative working between the VCSE sector and hospital systems. We delivered a number of outcomes during this programme, including a Best Practice Model, a short-term VCSE Home from Hospital Targeted Investment Fund, a number of case studies, and a map of services.

As part of the programme we also supported the VCSE Hospital Discharge Alliance, which is now supported by the Adult Social Care Transformation Team at NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care.

GM Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Network

From April 22 to September 23, 10GM worked with NHS GM ICS to maintain and improve

spaces for peer support and informal learning related to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. The Greater Manchester FASD Network is a collective of parents, carers, and community organisations united by a common interest in FASD. 10GM collaborated with the Greater Manchester FASD Network to: Expand their membership and visibility across Greater Manchester; Offer guidance on GM FASD strategy and implementation; Create and execute a series of FASD awareness activities led by individuals with lived experience.

A report outlining the project’s activities and highlights key insights can be read here

Museum Volunteering Development Programme

Working with the Museum Development UK, 10GM provided intensive support for 20 museums in the UK to review their operating models and ensure they have sustainable and responsive volunteering. We provided supportive sessions with peers, coaching, network building, training and online workshops.

This project was delivered by 10GM Partner organisation, Macc, on behalf of 10GM.

COVID19 Response

10GM has reinforced the VCSE sector’s role in supporting our communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to engage with our sector and public sector colleagues to highlight and mitigate the long-term impact of COVID-19 on our sector and local communities.

Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise Sector organisations across Greater Manchester have undertaken research to capture the impact of Covid19 – and the lockdown – on the people they support and local communities.

Women’s Support Services

10GM listened to the voices of women, and women’s organisations, to develop services for vulnerable and marginalised women. These women may have accessed (or need to access) several services, and are at risk of being a perpetrator or victim of crime.

The summary and reports below should be used alongside the learning and recommendations of pre-existing local research and insight.

10GM worked with Flourish CIC as an impartial organisation for this work.

Big Alcohol Conversation

Alcohol-related harm costs Greater Manchester’s public services £1.3 billion a year. 10GM worked with GMCVO to listen to the people of Greater Manchester as part of the Big Alcohol Conversation (BAC). The exercise allowed BAC to learn more about the role of alcohol in their lives and communities. The work gathered their opinions on ways to secure a safer approach to alcohol, and ways to reduce alcohol-related harm.

Make Smoking History

10GM led a partnership project to deliver focus groups to understand public support for the Making Smoking History (MSH) strategy. The work explored detailed measures such as extending smoke-free spaces or licensing tobacco retailers.

Participants of the focus groups were from diverse, marginalised, and underrepresented communities.

10GM led this work on behalf of the GM VCSE Devolution Reference Group.
